The Weeknd has cemented his place in music history once again—his hit single Blinding Lights is now officially the first song to reach 5 billion streams on Spotify.
The streaming giant announced the milestone on August 31, noting that the track reached this landmark nearly six years after its release. Originally dropped in November 2019 as the second single from his After Hours album, Blinding Lights has enjoyed an extraordinary run.
Earlier, in January 2024, the song had already surpassed 4 billion streams. Upon release, it topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four consecutive weeks and became the first track to remain in the top 10 for an entire year. The song has also earned a Diamond certification from the RIAA.
